The Center for Disaster Risk Management and Community Development Studies, HKBP Nommensen University (CDRM&CDS) is located in Medan, North Sumatera. The Center itself is based in the research and training center of the Agriculture Department facilities in Simalingkar, with field extension offices in Nias, Mentawat and Pakpak. The CDRM&CDS is supported by the Lutheran World Federation, Department for World Service, its Related Agencies and the Lutheran Churches of Indonesia and their active diaconal service departments.

CDRM&CDS Overall Goal:  To contribute to poverty alleviation through the rights-based empowerment of rural communities in Indonesia to manage and mitigate disasters and obtain sustainable development and the strengthening of disaster relief, rehabilitation and development organizations and agencies in Indonesia and the Region.

These positions serve on the Executive Management Team of the CDRM&CDS and therefore strong leaders and managers and participatory team players with a strong attitude of service are required:

Training and Program Manager

Assists and reports to the Director in the planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of the Center, and other program matters as well as human resource management, and relationship with relevant stakeholders both inside and outside of the Center. She/he will be actively involved in program related advocacy, networking and coordination. The Program and Training Manager directly supervises the Field Coordinators, Training Coordinator, Trainers, and Field staff, and works closely with the Financial, Administration and HR Manager.

We are looking for a candidate who is experienced in curricula development and participatory non-formal and formal adult training in community based disaster risk management, and has experience in disaster risk management program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and able to provide participatory leadership that motivates and inspires. She/he is expected to able to commit to the position full time.

General Requirements:

  • Degree in relevant studies/subject (ruin S2) with at least 3 years of experience in similar position.
  • Strong leadership skill, interpersonal skill, human resource development and sustainable development knowledge and ability.
  • Knowledge in participatory, right-based disaster risk management and community development or willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to travel to remote project areas.
  • Cultural sensitivity, team spirit and can-do attitude of service.
  • Interest and commitment to work with the poorest communities.
  • Fluent spoken and written English language skill and computer literacy.
